Editorial standards.

GovPing is a machine-built index of regulatory change. These are the standards that index is held to, and the commitments we make to readers and cited sources.

Provenance

Every published change lists the issuing authority, links to the source URL, and includes a detection timestamp. Schema.org metadata identifies the agency as the author and GovPing as the publisher.

If you can't tell where a piece of information came from, we've failed. The source is never more than one click away.

Accuracy

Summaries are grounded in the source content. The classifier is prompted to refuse any claim that isn't supported by the page it's reading. When a summary is wrong, the fix is to retrain the prompt and correct the record, not to rewrite history.

We mark changes as "detected" from the moment we observe them. The effective date we publish is the agency's date, not ours.

Neutrality

GovPing describes what changed. It does not rank regulations, predict agency behavior, or take positions on policy. A rule that raises costs and a rule that cuts them are indexed the same way.

Attention level labels (Urgent, Priority review, Informational) reflect operational urgency for the typical affected party, not editorial judgment about the rule.

Transparency about limits

GovPing's coverage is not exhaustive. We miss things when agency URLs change without redirects, when PDFs are scanned beyond OCR recovery, or when a source publishes through a channel we don't monitor. Every source we track is listed publicly.

We do not claim human editorial oversight on individual changes. The pipeline is automated. Humans tune the prompts, add and remove sources, and respond to corrections. Humans do not hand-write summaries.

When a classification or summary is wrong, it's because the model got it wrong. We treat that as a pipeline bug, not an opinion we'd defend.

Corrections

Email [email protected] with the URL and what should change. Corrections are applied to the live record and the correction date is noted. Significant corrections are listed on our corrections log.

We correct at the record level. We do not quietly overwrite history without a trail.

Independence

GovPing is operated by Changeflow, a bootstrapped company based in the UK. We take no advertising and do not sell placement. Coverage decisions are not influenced by commercial relationships.

Changeflow sells a paid product that uses the same infrastructure to monitor non-government sources. The free government index is not a loss leader for that product. It stands on its own.

Citation

When citing GovPing, please cite the agency as the source and GovPing as the aggregator. Every change detail page includes AP and Chicago citation formats via the "Cite this page" menu.

If you link to us, link to the change detail page directly. Deep links work, are stable, and preserve the provenance chain for your readers.
